If you have never been arrested for an offense above a class “C” ticket, my office will represent you for FREE on your first marijuana charge. The state legislature in Austin still makes possession of marijuana under 2 ounces a class “B” misdemeanor. This carries a range of punishment from 0 – 180 days in jail and up to a $2,000 fine. In addition, to that range of punishment a conviction will result in a driver’s license suspension for 6 months or 1 year depending on the defendant’s age. The Tarrant County District Attorney, Sharen Wilson, has put diversion programs in place that will greatly assist first time offenders with their marijuana case. I believe that the laws in Texas need to be changed, but until that happens I am going to do my part to assist those arrested in Tarrant County for marijuana possession.
